Vintage Linen Bonnet

I adore bonnets. My little Hamster will rock bonnets all summer. I always had a bonnet on as a baby. I think they are super important to keep that little face free from the sun. I plan on making several since it is very hard to find store bought ones and handmade ones are better anyway!
Heidi brought this pattern to my attention on Pinterest and I had to give it a try.Vintage Linen Bonnet

I used a vintage dresser runner that I had in my stash. It had just a touch of embroidery and it is a wonderful linen. I couldn't resist using the yellow rick rack too.Vintage Embroidery Close Up

Here is a close up of the embroidery. Some lovely work. I used some scraps of vintage cream linen for the lining.
Oh, and my lab results came back perfectly normal! Whew! Hamster can stay just where she is until she is ready to show her wee little face!
Off to try my hand at another style of bonnet!

WIP Sunday: Hamster's Room!

Hamster is due on May 12th, but I may find out tomorrow that she must come early. I had to do a 24 hour urine collection yesterday to check for proteins. Seems I had a bit my last 2 appointments and they want to be sure I'm not having issues with preeclampsia. I haven't had any other symptoms, but better safe than sorry, right. I'm not into the idea of having my labor induced, but if it is what is best then I will go with the flow. I have all my fingers and toes crossed that I hear tomorrow that I'm just fine and can let the little critter come on her own time! In the mean time her room is ready! Well I wouldn't say complete, but it looks like a nursery now anyway. Hamster won't be sleeping in her room for awhile anyway, but I wanted to have something that at least resembled a place for her.
Hamster's Crib

This is the wall with her crib and the "you are my sunshine" art I made. I love that organza type column light! It will be her nightlight for awhile when a little light is required. I put a few fun things on the shelves, but I'm sure she will collect her own things for them soon enough!Sweet Girl
I'm seem to be a very sentimental person. I had a wonderful Great Aunt pass away from cancer in February.  As I was doing some cleaning in anticipation of Hamster I came across this little vintage card that she had given to me for a birthday once upon a time. I thought it was a perfect little keepsake to put on Hamster's wall since she won't get to meet her. I had it custom matted and framed and it looks super! I'm thinking the card is from the 50's, but it didn't have a date on it.

Hamster's Dresser
This is the other side of the wall. You can't see my favorite vintage chair that is in the corner to the right, but I thought it fit in perfectly and would be a great place to read stories. I made the little curtain to hide a super ugly window and put some photos of me, the Hubby, and Merlin along with Hamster's first and last ultrasound in that photo collage frame. The dresser is also something special. When I was 8 I asked my Grandpa to build me a dresser for my dolls clothes. In my little mind I was picturing something small, you know doll sized. I awoke on Christmas morning to find that beauty in the living room! Three full sized drawers and a mirror! It is perfect to hold Hamster's tiny wee clothes and another family treasure.Gnome Alphabet Sampler Framed
One last detail to share! The amazing Pam (KittyKill) x-stitched up this super adorable gnome alphabet sampler and sent it to me for Hamster! I had it custom matted and my father in law created a one of a kind frame from reclaimed wood! It looks amazing on the wall and is the perfect focal point for the wall! I can't wait to add a bit more art from some crafty friends and fill her room full of even more love. Something about original art work filled walls makes my heart sing and I hope to instill that into my little girl too.
I'll keep you all posted on my lab results and here's hoping Hamster will arrive on her own terms!

Oh So Pretty

I couldn't resist making another onsie dress today. I'm filling my nice quiet days at home with creativeness. Good thing sewing and making art doesn't require standing! After I made the cowgirl dress I just knew I wanted to make something super ultra girlie and use some of my vintage lace stash. This is what I came up with.Oh So Pretty

It is so super frilly and fun! I just can't wait to have a little model to wear it for pictures! The onsie is size 0-3 months so I'm sure it won't fit for long.
Oh So Pretty Top

I made a little ruffle for the front and nestled 3 pearl buttons in it. I just love how classy it looks against the tea dyed onsie.

Lace Headband

I have the feeling that every outfit has to have a matching headband! I created this with a bit of elastic, the same lace as the ruff on the front, and a linen flower and pearl button.

These little onsie dresses are amazingly easy and so much fun! I have a few more ideas for some, but I think next on the list is making a bonnet!

Little Cowgirl!

Awhile back the lovely Pam recruited one of her crafty pals to crochet up a pair of little cowgirl boots for Hamster! When I got them in the mail I knew she had to have a little dress with some western flair to rock with those boots. I used a onsie dress pattern I found on Pinterest to create this little beauty. Of course it also had to have a matching headband.Yeehaw! New onsie dress for a little cowgirl.
I can't wait for my little cowgirl to strut her stuff!

WIP Sunday: Rawr!

I don't do much except sit in a chair these days. LOL Okay, that isn't all I do. I still occasionally make it down to the sewing machine and putter away a bit, but I have nothing to share on that front. I'm still hand stitching on Heidi's super duper full of awesome surprise! I'm hoping to have it done by the time she comes to visit! Today I sat in my chair and doodled a bit. I also got to play with the Derwent Inktense pencils I got for Christmas! They are amazing! I doodled a couple little monsters and hope to turn them in to a couple of special pieces of art to send to a friend. :) Boy Rawr!
First, a little boy Rawr! Silly faced little creature. I haven't doodled anything this fun in a long time. Silly Face Rawr
Then a little girl Rawr! Don't you just love those little googly eyes!
I'm going to cut them out and apply them to a back ground that I'll create with some fun papers, stamping, and general messiness. I might just have to create some of these little Rawr's on some onsies too.
So here I sit, preggers and waiting. I might as well make good use of the time and doodle away!

Rainbow Thread!

I'm trying to get a bazillion things done before I'm officially done with work to prepare for Hamster's arrival. I finished up my last piece for the Hoop Up and Send swap on Flickr! Nerdysewist's theme was thread spools. I found this pattern on Urban Threads and had to do it up in super duper rainbow colors.Rainbow Thread
I used metallic thread for the needles and a real vintage button for the center.I also used variegated thread to get the pretty rainbows. I couldn't resist! It is on it's way to it's new home and I hope Nerdy loves it!

Hamster's room is almost complete, but I'll share it after I have a few more pieces of art up. :) I think she needs more art to fill those walls! I can't stand bare walls! I'm hoping to collect some wonderful pieces from some of my crafty friends to fill her space with love and art.

I've Been A Little Busy

I hate feeling like I need to apologize for neglecting my tiny little blog! Things are getting rather hectic around here. I've finished up a few projects, started a few more, and am awaiting Hamster's arrival. I get tired pretty fast these days so dragging my butt to the computer can become a task.
Easter was a blast and Hamster got her very first Easter egg!Hamster's First Egg

My little sister, whom I can't seem to say no to, begged for some hand made Easter dresses for her American Girl dolls. She did this, of course, the week before Easter! I got up early 2 mornings in a row and with the help of a wonderful pattern from http://sewlikemymom.com/ I made a set of black and white dresses!
Easter Dresses

I've also been washing up baby clothes and blankets and preparing mentally for the arrival of Hamster! The bassinet is all ready in our bedroom. It is a pretty special place for her to sleep since it is the bassinet I slept in and also my sister. Now my own little wee girl will take a turn. The outfit in there is her "coming home" dress made by the lovely Heidi (Digital Misfit). I will pack it up a little closer to time to make sure it comes along to the hospital with us. A month left people!Rock a bye baby

I'll be back to share a couple more projects this week!
